Salle Airport to remain closed for three months

RUKUM, Feb 15: Salle Airport in the district headquarters of Rukum has been closed for 3 months for upgradation starting this week. According to Salle Civil Aviation Office, the airport will remain closed for three months to blacktop the runway.



The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has started upgrading the airport and had allocated Rs 70 million for the purpose. [break]



The length of the Salle Airport runway is 600 meters. However, only 500-meter stretch of the runway will be blacktopped, said the airport administration. Salle is one of the most easily accessible airports in the country.



Regular flights were in operation since then Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Bhim Rawal had inaugurated the airport in 2051 BS. Some of the private airlines, which were operating flights to Salle Airport, had stopped flying to the airport citing lack of concrete runway.
