An annual event at the center, this year’s Russian Film Festival celebrates 30 years of Russian Center in Nepal with five Russian films on its screening list. The five films – “The Wedding”, “Ours”, “Night Watch”, “Treasure Island” and “The Cold Summer of 1953” are based on romance, comedy, history and fantasies. The festival kicks off today at its center in Kamal Pokhari and will last through October 23. Below are the synopsis and the screening schedule of the film fest:
October 21, Wednesday
NIGHT WATCH
Showtime: 11:00 a.m.
Running time: 115 minutes
Synopsis: The first two parts of the fantasy thriller trilogy are set in Moscow. They are divided into the forces of light and the forces of dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents.

THE WEDDING
Showtime: 3:00 p.m.
Running time: 114 minutes
Synopsis: The beautiful Tanya returns to her small mining town, after supposedly working as a model in Moscow. She decides to marry her shy school sweetheart Mishka, who now work in the mine. The miners finally receive some pay, but mishika still ends up with no money to buy his bride a gift, so he seeks the help of his perpetually drunk buddy Garkusha.
October 22, Thursday
THE COLD SUMMER OF 1953Showtime: 11:00 a.m.
Running time: 96 minutes
Synopsis: Shortly after Joseph’s death in 1953, Lavrently Beria, the omnipotent NKDV Minister, granted a braod amnesty. Due to it, going at large were hardened criminals that had been convicted fir grave offences. Wreaking havoc in the taiga in search of food and transportation, the bandits come across a small village where two amnestied political prisoners are waiting for the arrival of a boat.

Synopsis: It is in august 1941. With the battle line far away in the east three soldiers who have managed to escape from captivity find it difficult to hide: the territory is occupied by the enemy. The local woods are not safe. Are the villagers loyal?

TREASURE ISLAND

Running time: 86 minutes
Synopsis: The film is based on a novel by Robert L. Stevenson. Jim, a dashing young man dreaming of romantic, thrilling adventures, happens to come across an old sea chart. It shows the way to a treasure hidden by a legendary pirate, Captain Flint. The treasure is buried on an island lost in the ocean.
