Rupee hits fresh record low of 108.90 per dollar

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday adjusted exchange rate of dollar following the fluctuation of currency value in the international market.



According to the new rate, Nepali rupee has reached to a record low against US dollar at Rs 108.90 per dollar. The buying value has been fixed at Rs 108.30 per dollar.

Earlier on Wednesday, the selling rate of U.S. dollar was at Rs.105.35 against a dollar.[break]



However, the Indian rupee, to which the Nepali rupee is pegged, has gained back 2.8 percent against the dollar on Thursday, coming off its record low struck the day before. The troubled IRs had plunged to an all-time low of 68.80 against the US dollar on Wednesday.



The battered rupee -- which has lost nearly nine percent in the past week -- strengthened to 66.88 to the dollar today.
