RPP convention elects CC members

KATHMANDU, May 22: The unity convention of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RJP elected over 53 central committee members and vote counting for the members under reservation quota for women, dalits and other marginalized communities was under way until late evening on Wednesday.



The convention had earlier on Monday unanimously elected former RJP head Surya Bahadur Thapa as the chairman of the unified party, which has been named RPP. [break]



The gathering also decided to form a High Level Working Committee headed by Thapa. Former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, former RPP Chairman Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana and Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani are members of the body.



Other members elected as central committee members are Jayanta Chand, son of former Prime Minister Chand, Sunil Bahadur Thapa, son of former Prime Minister Thapa and Suman Mehar Shrestha, son of former RPP leader late Jogmehar Shrestha. Similarly, Parshuram Khapung, Bikram Pandey, Bhuwan Pathak, Prem Bahadur Bhandari, Dhruva Pradhan Pradhan are among those elected as CC members.



Of those elected central committee members, over 40 are from the former RPP party. Office bearers of the party will be nominated later.
