BIRGUNJ : Ongoing strike of transport entrepreneurs has pushed down revenue collection at Birgunj Customs Office by over 50 percent. Local truck operators have been enforcing strikes for the past few days, demanding hike in transportation fares.

The strike launched by Narayani Truck Transport Entrepreneurs´ Association and Tarai Truck Transport Entrepreneurs´ Association has put more than 4,700 trucks off the road.

"Revenue collection has dropped by over 50 percent due the strike. Imports have been stuck at Raxaul, while Nepal´s exports also have not been transported to the customs point," Laxman Shrestha, information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office.
