Participating at a press conference organized by the Parbat district committee of UCPN (Maoist), he said, “Either the political parties should forge consensus or they should go for elections and form a new government. Apart from these two options, there´s no other way through which the incumbent government can be changed."
Poudel was also of the opinion that the present government cannot be toppled just because opposition parties want it. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai´s resignation will only bring more hardships to the country, he added.
Although the opposition parties have urged the President Ram Baran Yadav to remove the prime minister from office and pave way for formation of a national consensus government, the president is not willing to change the current government till there is an alternative, he said.
"The failure to draft the new constitution is due to the failure to implement the five-point deal, which is very unfortunate." But he also conceded that Maoists are also responsible for failing to implement the five-point agreement. The fresh Constituent Assembly polls were declared to end the constitutional vacuum in the country, he concluded.
