Reality

I was indifferent to your feelings,
Didn't ever care how I made your heart race,
Ambitious, I wanted to focus on my career,
Independence was my goal, couldn't afford any weaknessI lived in apathy, strongly feared failure,
But I didn't let my eyes embellish my anxieties,
Always striving to make more money,
I dreamt of building pyramids out of my possessions
As I count the hours until my death today,
Alone, in an old age home,
I realize that none of my material possessions matter
Etched in my memories are people who loved me,
And the many excuses I deployed to ignore them,
Today, I deserve this indifference from my family
