SURKHET: Incessant rainfall since Friday morning has inundated upper areas of the Ratna Highway in Surkhet. According to inspector Dipak Sah, the Khajura-Pipra section of the highway in Birendranagar, the district headquarters, has been inundated. [break]

He said the water has also entered nine houses displacing the locals. “Water level has receded after we unclogged the drain pipes but some of the locals have been displaced,” he said. Security personnel had rescued the locals after the rainwater entered their houses.

“The flood has completely damaged our house,” said Dhansari Rana. Meanwhile, vehicular movement has been obstructed along the Surkhet-Dailekh road section due to landslide triggered by heavy rainfall. District Traffic Police Office (DTPO) informed that the landslide had occurred at around 11: 00 am. Efforts are on to clear the obstruction along the road section.
