“Prost!” And raise your beer mugs for the world’s most famous beer drinking festival of Bavarian Germany. As the whole world gets engrossed in the spirit of the festival, especially in Munich, we Nepalis aren’t left behind.

The Sunrise Café at Hotel Yak & Yeti is already celebrating Oktoberfest, and you all are invited. And this year, the festival is even more special, because it’s the 200th anniversary of the beer guzzling fest in Munich.[break]

Inaugurated by the German Ambassador, HE Verena Gräfin von Roedern, on Tuesday, September 21, the event is here to tickle your taste buds till Monday, October 04.

“Though the exact ambience of the Munich Oktoberfest can’t be recreated, it’s good to see some of Germany’s culture and food here” said the German envoy to Nepal..

“This is Germany’s well known festival and a lot of foreigners dream to be there. So this can be said to be a small foretaste of the fest,” she added.

The beer is supplied by Lowenbrau, and most of the foods have been made locally. Try the Glazed Kasseler – tender pork meat marinated for a week – or the varieties of bread made by the Y&Y’s own bakery. Listen to some hit instrumental numbers by Ram Shrestha & the Himalayan Rockers as you take a bite of some sweet dishes, like Sacher Torte, or Tarta Caramel.

And is there an Oktoberfest without sausages??

“The different varieties of sausages have been supplied by Nina & Hager, who have a German touch,” informs the executive chef, K.K. Basnet.

Bharat Joshi, director of sales & marketing of the hotel, states that there is a growing enthusiasm about the fest organized every year.

“We have both local and foreign guests at the event; and usually, they are corporate clients or families,” he mentions.
