Chairman Khanal argued that confrontation among parties is very much likely as another alliance of the parties may take a shape to counter the Maoist-led alliance. [break]
"The country is likely to be pushed into a series of confrontations due to the Maoist move to form the alliance,” warned Khanal while addressing a group of cross-party youth leaders at his residence, Tuesday. "The Maoist move won´t do good to the country."
Youth leaders from UCPN (Maoist), CPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front had reached the residence of Khanal at Dallu on Monday mroning as part of their campaign to meet top leaders of all major parties and urge them to hold ´result-oriented´ negotiations to bail the country out of current impasse. They are meeting Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur on Wednesday.
According to NC youth leader Gagan Thapa, who participated in the meeting, the youth leaders cautioned that the politics of the country may slip out of the hands of the politicians if they continued with their lackadaisical attitude to resolving the deadlock.
Rabindra Adhikari, Yogesh Dhakal and Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal from the UML, Gagan Thapa and Surendra Pandey from NC, and Jitendra Sonal from the UDMF were present at the meeting with Khanal. "We asked Khanal not to let the country slide toward fresh political polarlisation as this could endanger the very existence of the country," said UML youth leader Adhikari.
The youth leaders while expressing their disappointment with the top leaders had asked Khanal to put additional efforts to help forge consensus among parties to resolve the deadlock seen after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA). “As there is deficit of trust among the major parties, we underscored the need for a new written agreement among the parties to resolving the impasse,” Thapa told Republica.
Leaders participating in the meeting said Khanal assured that he would put in his best efforts to help forge consensus among parties and resolve the deadlock at the earliest.
