Private schools agree to waive admission, entrance fees

KATHMANDU, March 21: Officials at the Department of Education (DoE) have directed the private schools in Kathmandu valley not to charge fees for distributing admission and entrance forms.



During a surprise inspection by the officials, Paragon and Pathshala schools in Kathmandu and Rato Bangla and Shuvatara in Lalitpur were found charging as high as Rs 1,000 for entrance admission.



As per the existing rule, the schools are allowed to charge Rs 100 for admission form and Rs 25 as entrance fee.



Coordinator of the monitoring team and Director at the DoE Tek Narayan Pandey said the schools have pledged to return the amount to the students charged so far.



Budhanilkanth School has already decided to reduce the fees for form distribution this year.
