Balika Pariyar, accused of murdering Anis Oli, 5, of Fulbari VDC Dang, escaped from the police station at five in the morning. The police had arrested three people including Pariyar and were investigating the suspects who had been remanded to to judicial custody.[break]
According to police inspector Ganesh Bikaram Shah, Pariyar was being held at the inspector´s room as the police station does not have a separate holding cell for female detainees.
The police used to keep women prisoners in inspector´s room using handcuff. "In the night handcuff is put on the legs of prisoners and women police also sleeps in the same room," he said adding, "We do not have separate room for women prisoners."
He said that Bina Thapa, a women police was assigned to look after Pariyar on Thursday evening. Pariyar´s handcuff was opened in the morning to let her go to the toilet but it had not been put back on. "Due to this negligence, the prisoner managed to flee the police station," he added. Shah complained that the police station was not cordoned and prisoners´ toilet is also outside the station.
The Zonal Police Office has formed a probe committee to investigate the incident. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bahadurjung Malla headed committee started work from Friday. The police have stepped up search for the escaped prisoner.
