Though the draws and fixtures of the tournament were already published, the venue was yet to be decided. Three Star Club´s General Secretary Sanjiv Shilpakar said the club has received confirmation from the AFC on Friday regarding the host city. However, the stadiums to host the matches have not been confirmed yet, according to Shilpakar.
Three Star made it to the final rounds as the winner of Group A during the qualifiers held in Kathmandu from May 7 to 11. Erchim FC of Mongolia also progressed to the finals from the same group as the runner-up.[break]
Three Star and Erchim FC have again been drawn in the same group for the final rounds along with Balkan of Turkmenistan in Group A. Three Star had defeated Erchim 2-0 during the qualifiers. Group B consists of KRL Football Club of Pakistan, Al Quds Hilal FC of Palestine and Dordoi FC of Kyrgyzstan.
The winning team of each group after the single round-robin league will enter the final. Dordoi, which won the title in 2006 and 2007, is competing in the tournament for a record eighth time.
Three Star, semifinalist in the first edition in 2005, will meet 2011 semifinalist Balkan in its opening match. Three Star and Erchim will lock horns on September 25. This is the second time Three Star is playing in the tournament featuring the league champions of third-tier member associations of AFC.
