The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre under the Ministry of Environment has laid the plan under a pilot project to promote solar energy, said Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel, executive director of the Alternative Energy Promotion Center under the ministry.[break]
Officials at the center said they hope that the project will help ease power cuts.
“Once the targeted areas are supplied with solar energy, the electricity of main grid will be transferred to other areas of the valley,” Surya Sapkota, Senior Planning Officer told Republica.
The AEPC had conducted a two-month long feasibility study and concluded that there is a possibility of installing solar panels at three places as of now.
In the first phase of solar energy, around 10 kilowatt electricity will be supplied to the president´s office.
Similarly, around 30 kilowatt and 14 kilowatt will be supplied to Minister´s Quarter and TU library respectively.
Earlier, AEPC had planned to install solar panels at the Prime Minister´s Office, Singha Durbar and Tribhuvan International Airport.
Executive Director Pokharel informed that they had been unable to install solar plants at Prime Minister´s residence, Baluwatar, due to lack of sufficient budget, adding,“"As soon as the government approves the required budget, we will install solar plants at the prime minister´s residence”"
The government has allocated Rs. 25 million to install solar panels during the first phase.
