President Paudel promulgates Constitutional Council ordinance

As per the proposed provision, a meeting of the Constitutional Council can proceed with the presence of four members, and decisions can be made by a majority of those present.

KATHMANDU, May 5: President Ram Chandra Paudel has promulgated the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedure) Ordinance, 2083 BS.



The President’s Office had previously sent the ordinance back to the government on Sunday for review. The government resubmitted it for approval on Monday, a day after it was returned for reconsideration.

As per the proposed provision, a meeting of the Constitutional Council can proceed with the presence of four members, and decisions can be made by a majority of those present.


The six-member Constitutional Council comprises the Prime Minister as chair, along with the Chief Justice, Speaker, National Assembly Chair, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives and Deputy Speaker.
