President meets world leaders

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Saturday afternoon attended a special military parade held in Kuwait City to mark the 50th anniversary of the independence of Kuwait and the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait.



The function also marks the fifth anniversary of the ascendance of the emir of Kuwait.[break]



On his arrival at the Parade Grounds, the president was accorded a warm welcome by His Highness the Emir of Kuwait and other senior leaders of the country. The president was accompanied by the Minister in waiting and the Minister in charge of Electricity and Water of the Government of Kuwait Dr Bader Shebib Al-Shraiaan.



According to Foreign Secretary Madan Kumar Bhattarai, who is accompanying the president, President Dr Yadav had useful talks and exchange of views with many leaders in Kuwait attending the special function hosted by the government of Kuwait. They included King of Bhutan JIgme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, President of Paksitan Asif Ali Zardari and President of Bangladesh Mohammed Zillur Rahman.



The president also had talks with Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in the afternoon. Other leaders whom the president met Saturday afternoon were the vice-president of the Philippines, Speaker of Morocco Abdul Wahed Al-Radhi, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Kofi Annan, former UN secretary general.
