KATHMANDU, April 24: In just six years of its launch, Crity Award has become successful in creating a special platform for indigenously produced advertisements benefiting all concerned parties - advertisers, agencies, consumers and media.

With rapid growth in advertising sector, Crity has went on to become a beacon of inspiration for advertising professionals and one of the largest events in the country. [break]

This year Crity Award is getting even bigger and better. Before initiating this year´s event, Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN) conducted interactions to discuss the lessons learnt from previous editions of the event and incorporated them this year.

The ceremony will be telecast live in eight stations and broadcast in 12 to 14 radio stations. This year, AAN is giving away awards in 21 categories this year and each category will have five nominees.

AAN has added a new category -- Best Creative Youth Award -- this year to reward and encourage new entrants in the industry. “This award will be given to freelancers under the age of 30. AAN will provide a theme for the competition before 48 hours of the event and the participants are required to submit and present their creativity in front of a panel of judges,” said Bharat Lal Nyachhyon, executive director of AAN.

AAN has received 417 entries from 35 agencies for 21 categories this year.

AAN President Nirmal Raj Poudel said majority of established agencies have been represented in the award. He also said special attention has been taken to make sure that the awards are given in an impartial way.

“In order to avoid conflict of interest, we have selected members of judging committee (JC) from outside AAN,” Poudel said, adding, “AAN will only help in managing the logistics for the award. The rest will be done by the JC.”

The JC consists of five experts and well-renowned personalities. It has been entrusted with the responsibility of defining categories and selecting a three-member judging panel for each category.

In order to ensure fair judgment, members in the judging panel will not be declared before the event, according to AAN officials. AAN will conduct SMS voting for the Most Popular TVC award. The voting will open for two weeks before the event.

Though date for the awards has yet to be finalized, preparations for the annual advertising extravaganza are in full swing. “Currently the judging round is taking place. We will announce nominations within a week or two,” Poudel said.

The judging panel picks out five nominees in each category.

The credibility of Crity Awards is increasing every year and it has been able to establish itself in a short span. “I feel the system for judging is very impartial and there is no bias against anyone,” said Dr Bhoj Raj Aryal, who has been associated with this award for the last three or four years.

AAN is all set to make Crity Awards a mega event. It is delaying the even because of power outage problem. “Since Crity is a big event, which will be covered by almost all televisions and radios, we have not been able to set a specific date because of load shedding,” said Poudel. However, AAN has not approached concerned government authority on the issue.

Though almost all the awards are surrounded by controversy, there are high hopes that Crity will be an impartial one. May the best win!
