The group of 4-5 men shot Dhirja Mahato, 48, in his forehead in front of his house in Bariyarpur-1 at around 11 pm when he was returning from a wedding reception in the neighborhood. [break]
He died on the spot. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Chaudhary said three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.
Government employees protested the killing of fellow staffer in district headquarters Kalaiya on Saturday. Five employees´ organizations have announced shutdown of all government offices in the Narayani zone for three days starting Sunday putting forward a seven-point demand including action against the guilty, compensation of Rs 2,000,000, a martyr status for the deceased, erection of his statue, and security guarantee for government staffers, among other things.
The agitating staffers, victim´s family and the administration had a dialogue in the afternoon but the staffers stuck to their demand and refused to relent without a written agreement claiming that the family of Madhav Thapa -- a staffer at the Land Revenues Office, Bara -- has yet to receive any compensation three months after his murder despite verbal assurances by the administration.
Mahato´s wife Janaki Devi said her husband had been receiving repeated threats for issues related to Bariyapur´s Gadhimai Nera Primary School where he was president of the school management committee.
Mahato is survived by three sons and two daughters.
