The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had arrested Police Biswas, Pramod Kumar Mahato, Nirmal Lama, Jagat Bahadur Thapa and Cham Bahadur Thapa from different locations. [break]
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that all of them were involved in the bomb blasts and extortions and that they followed the instructions of the chief of Nepal Defense Army, Ram Prasad Mainali,” said Upendra Kanta Mainali, chief of CIB at a press conference organized at Police Headquarters on Thursday.
The police found out during the investigation that the members of NDA detonated bombs at New Road and Thapathali to create a fear about the outfit so that it could extort money from businessmen.
The NDA had on January 6 exploded a pressure-cooker bomb at New Road Pipalbot. No one was injured in the blast. The police had found two copies of the book “Parda Bhitra ko Rahasya”, written by the underground outfit´s chief Mainali, and leaflets from the blast site.
The group had also deposited a bomb outside the office of United Mission to Nepal, Thapathali on November 22.
While Baral, 28, was involved in the management of explosives, Pramod Kumar Mahato, 26, was responsible for carrying out the blast in New Road and Nirmal Lama, 26, in helping Mahato carry out the blast, according to police. Likewise, Jagat Bahadur Thapa, 30, who originally hails from Nawalparasi, intimidated people and demanded ransom from them.
The members of the NDA had intimidated more than 27 businessmen including Shiva Lamichhane, owner of Baraha Jewelry.
Lamichhane was asked to deposit Rs 20 million in Delhi via informal channel and it was revealed during investigatoin that Kam Gin Thang, the pastor at Nakhu Church, had given the group Rs 30,000.
Police have confiscated five mobile sets, two SIM cards and letters written by NDA chief Mainali from those arrested.
Mainali is currently serving a jail term at Dillibazar prison.
