The semifinal to be held between Police and MMC will be held on Friday, the treasurer of the organizer Dharan Football Club Pratap Tamang said.
Similarly, Saturday´s final match will be conducted on Sunday. The organizers postponed the final match by a day anticipating low participation of spectators as the final of the Cricket World Cup 2011 will be held on Saturday.
Mountain bike rally on Saturday
Laxmi Cares, a social initiative of the employees of Laxmi Bank, is set to organize the Laxmi Cares Annual Mountain Bike Rally on Saturday as a part of their ´Go Green´ campaign. The rally will begin from Patan Durbar Square at 7am and will conclude at Gyanodaya Residential School, Khokana.
A mountain bike race for interested bikers will be held on a 4.6 km circuit in Khokana after the rally, informed the organizers during a press meet in the capital on Thursday. The race will include competition in Masters (above 30 years), Elite (under 30 years), Junior (under 18 years) and Ladies categories. The participants of the elite category will have to complete eight laps while the rest will have to complete only six.
The event will also feature concerts by popular bands like Albatross, Mukti and Revival and KJC Jazz Band.
"The race is not just a competition but also an entertainment," said singer Nirakar Yakthumba, who is also a cycling enthusiast. The organizers are expecting about 1000 people in the rally and the funds raised will be used to install solar street lamps at public places including Patan Durbar Square and the Bagmati bridge at Thapathali. The entry fee for the rally is Rs 1000 and for the race is Rs 500.
Chain Inc, a mountain bike company, is managing the event while Three Star Club, one of the most popular football clubs of Nepal, has also joined hands in this project.
NSC wins women´s volleyball
National Sports Council (NSC) lifted the title of the women´s volleyball in the second edition of the ongoing Public Enterprises Sports Tournament on Thursday.
NSC stunned the defending champions Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) 25-20, 25-8 in the final round robin match of the league to secure first position. Cultural Centre finished second while NEA settled for the third position.
In the men´s volleyball, NEA set up a title clash with Janak Sikshya Samagri Centre. Employee´s Provident Fund won the quiz contest scoring 15 points. Rastriya Banijya Bank and Nepal Telecom finished second and third respectively.
Likewise, defending champion Madan Birsingh Dangol of Nepal Bank Limited won the chess title. Bikash Man Lama of NEA finished second while Gobinda Khadka of Nepal Telecom settled for the third position.
Rupak Memorial football from Sunday
The first edition of Rupak Memorial Five-a-side Corporate Football Tournament will be held at the Jawalakhel ground from April 3-8.
The tournament organized with a view to set up a ´Sportsman Welfare Fund´ for the needy players will be participated by 15 teams, the organizers Rupak Memorial Foundation said amidst a press conference in the capital on Thursday.
The participating teams are divided into four groups with top two finishers entering the quarterfinal after the completion of the league round matches. Group A consists of Image Channel, G-five Mobile, Surya Nepal and Manakamana Development Bank while International Leasing and Finance Company Ltd, Civil Bank, Norling Restaurant and Himalayan Bank have been pitted in Group B, International Money Express (IME), Global Bank and Bank of Asia and The Himalayan Times are in group C and group D features Ncell, Nepal Industrial and Commercial Bank and Chaudhary Group.
Balkumari, Kantipur into final
Balkumari College (Chitwan) and Kantipur Hotel Management College reached the final of the Martyr Dil Bahadur Ramtel Memorial Running Cup Cricket Tournament on Thursday.
Balkumari beat Kantipur City College (KCC) by eight wickets at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. KCC scored 110 runs in 20 overs losing all wickets after they opted to bat first winning the toss. Santosh Shah scored 27 runs for KCC while Naresh Giri of Balkumari took three wickets. Balkumari met the target in just 18 overs losing two wickets. Sagar Bhattarai scored 36 runs for the winning team.
In another semifinal, Kantipur defeated ACME Engineering College by two runs. ACME invited Kantipur to bat first after winning the toss. Kantipur scored 132 runs losing six wickets. Ishwor Pokhrel scored 28 runs. In reply, ACME were restricted at 130, just two run short, off 20 overs losing nine wickets. Abhishek Sapkota took five wickets for Kantipur in the match.
Triton wins T20 title
Triton College, Kathmandu clinched the title of the Vice Chancellor Ring Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament as they eased past hosts PUSET College, Biratnagar by eight wickets in the final held in Biratnagar on Thursday.
PUSET won the toss and elected to bat first. Dilip Sharma contributed 38 runs while Ajay Rajbanshi and Bibek Jha added 20 runs each as the team posted a total of 124 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing all the wickets.
Sharad Vesawkar took four wickets of the hosts while Rupesh Shrivastava claimed three and Shakti Gauchan took two wickets.
In reply, Triton successfully chased the 125-run target in 16.5 overs losing only two wickets. Man-of-the-final Amit Shrestha scored 52 runs for Triton while Basanta Regmi struck 44 runs. Vesawkar added 21 runs. Ajay Rajbanshi took two wickets for PUSET.
The winners, Triton, bagged Rs 50,000 and the trophy while runners-up PUSET earned Rs 25,000.
Bijay Thapa of CCRC was adjudged the best bowler of the series while Dipendra Chaudhary of the same college was received the best batsman award. Manoj Mandal of the hosts declared the man of the series.
Corporate T20 from Sunday
Corporate Clash T20 2011 is set to kick off at the TU Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The four day event from April 3-6 will see the participation of four corporate houses. The participating teams are Nepal SBI Bank, Yeti Airlines, Nepal Telecom and Citizens Bank.
The tournament will be played in league-cum-knockout format. The top two teams from the league rounds will advance into the final.
