Nepal Army Club claimed four gold medals to finish second as Raju Rana, Dinesh Shrestha and Bhairav Singh Thapa won one gold each on Wednesday. [break]
Police weightlifter Rajya Laxmi Thapa and Laxmi Ban secured gold medals in the women´s 69 kg and 75 kg category respectively. Thapa lifted 50 kg in snatch and 65 kg in clean and jerk to take gold with a total of 115 kg. Pushpa Chaudhary of Siraha lifted 40 kg in snatch and 50 kg in clean and jerk to bag silver while Kalpana Chaudhary lifted 30 kg in snatch and 40 kg in clean and jerk to take bronze.
In the 75 kg category, Laxmi Ban raised 52 kg in snatch and 68 kg in clean and jerk to clinch gold with a total of 120 kg. Champa Thakulla of Kanchanpur lifted 40 kg in snatch and 57 kg in clean and jerk to finish second in the event. Only two lifters had competed in the event.
The women´s 48 kg gold went to Kabita Chaudhary of Saptari who lifted 45 kg in snatch and 50 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 95 kg. Kanchan Chaudhary of Kailali took silver lifting 37 kg and 45 kg in snatch and clean and jerk, while Tika Maya Gurung of Kaski raised 35 and 46 kg in snatch and clean and jerk respectively for bronze.
In the men´s 62 kg category, Hem Shankar Chaudhary of Siraha lifted 75 kg in snatch and 100 kg in clean and jerk to take gold with total of 175 kg. Hari Rana of Army finished ahead of his teammate Tula Ram Mahato to bag silver in the event. Rana lifted 78 kg in snatch and 95 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 173 kg.
Army´s male weightlifters claimed three gold medals on Wednesday. Army´s Raju Rana won gold in the men´s 69 kg category lifting a total of 230 kg. He lifted 100 kg in snatch and 130 in clean and jerk. Police´s Anil Malla came second lifting 100 kg in snatch and 110 in clean and jerk for a total of 210 kg. Digambar Yadav of Saptari secured bronze lifting 90 kg in snatch and 107 kg in clean and jerk.
In the 85 kg category, Dinesh Shrestha of Army claimed gold lifting a total of 238 kg -- 108 kg in snatch and 130 kg in clean and jerk. Narayan Shrestha of Chitwan and Tahal Bahadur Basyal of Army won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Similarly, Army weightlifter Bhairav Singh took gold in the 94 kg category raising 95 kg in snatch and 130 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 225 kg. Ganga Singh Oli of the same team secured silver while Gagan Chand of Police took bronze.
Meanwhile, Prashant Shah of Nepalgunj was honored for his contribution to the development of weightlifting. Similarly, former weightlifter Nita Thapa of Birgunj was awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Shah had set the national record in women´s 48 kg category in 2056 BS which stands to this day.
A total of 97 weightlifters -- 29 female and 68 male -- from departmental teams Nepal Police and Nepal Army and 17 players from various districts had competed in the two-day event.
