Police destroys 9,000 liters of hooch

CHITWAN, Sept 1 : The Chitwan police have destroyed around 9,000 liters of hooch in the last two days. A team deployed by the Chitwan District Police Office seized 9,000 liters of home made liquor from Bhojad and Gondrang area of the district. Police claimed that it was the biggest crackdown on home made liquors in the district this year.



After implementation of special security campaign by the government last week, police has sprung to action and has been cracking down on illegal activities in the district. [break]



District Police Spokesperson Sanjaya Raut informed that three people involved in brewing home made liquor have been arrested. The arrested have been identified as Bishnu Khadka, Krishna Tamang and Som Bahadur Kumar of Bharatpur-11.



Police sent the arrested to Inland Revenue Office (IRO) for further investigation. IRO will take action against them as per the laws of the land, said the police.

During the raid, police also seized the utensils used in brewing hooch.

Similarly, 52 sacks of molasses used for brewing liquor have also been recovered from the area. Police had raided the area following a tip off by the locals.
