The event is being organized from the last eleven years to commemorate New Year and promote Pokhara as a New Year destination for both domestic and international visitors. The event is organized by Pokhara chapter of Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN) with the slogan of ´Eat, Dance and Enjoy on the street´.
The 3km-long road from Fishtail Gate to Dihikopatan in Lakeside is wearing a festive look to celebrate the event.
About 80 restaurants in the Lakeside are preparing dishes and serving their guests on the street throughout the festival. The organizers have blocked traffic on the road for the celebration.
"We are planning to entertain visitors with cultural programs and feed everyone with all the delicacies on the street itself," REBAN President Surya Bhujel said.
Apart from food and cultural programs, interesting sporting events like Tourist Race, Kayak Race, Tug of War, Waiter Race and food eating competitions are also being organized. The event will see cultural attractions like Chyaju dance of Gurungs, Selo of Tamangs, Kaura dance of Magars, stick dance of Tharus and cultural procession of Kirant and Newar people.
The event saw the participation of some 400,000 visitors last year. REBAN expects the number of visitors to be more than what they received last year. The organizers expect direct transaction in the range of Rs 8 to 10 million throughout the festival period. "Indirect transaction is expected to be in the range of Rs 400 million," Bhujel added.
