PM visits photo exhibition

KATHMANDU, May 15: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal on Sunday visited the photo exhibition of the Mega Bank Photo Competition 2067 at the Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal.



PM Khanal spent half-an-hour observing the 141 best photos shortlisted for the award from among 4,989 photos submitted by nearly 600 amateur and professional photographers for the competition organized by Photojournalist Club (PJ Club).[break]



“Photojournalists are really quick,” PM Khanal commented after looking at his photo watching the Army Day exhibition in Tundikhel with the caps of binoculars still on. “It was interesting to see my own photo.”



“I am happy today after having an opportunity to visit the exhibition,” PM Khanal wrote in the guestbook. “The photos have proved where a journalist’s eyes and vision can reach.” PM Khanal also wished for development of photojournalism in his guestbook entry.



Monday is the last day of the exhibition in Kathmandu. Similar exhibition will also be held in Biratnagar, Nepalgunj and Pokhara in near future, according to program co-ordinator Bikash Karki.



President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had visited the exhibition on Saturday. Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nembang had inaugurated the photo exhibition on Thursday, May 12.



Yalu Joshi won the Photo of the Year award while Bikram Giri, Rajendra Manandhar, Kapildev Khanal, Ramesh Tamang and Nayantara Gurung Kakshapati won the best photos in daily life, nature and wildlife, news, tourism and photo story categories respectively.



Mega Bank Photo Competition 2067 is the biggest photo competition with total prize worth Rs. 400,000 open for amateur and professional Nepali photographers organized by Photojournalist Club, a non-profit organization promoting photojournalism in Nepal. PJ Club is organizing the event targeting amateurs and professional photographers to promote photography in Nepal.



The event is sponsored by Mega Bank in association with UBOX, category sponsor by Agni Air, Annapurna Marathon, Raaika tours and travels, WWF and is supported by Nepal Tourism Year 2011, Ice Mobile, Lucky Professional Digital Paper, Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Prisma Advertising and Interface Nepal.
