KATHMANDU, June 13: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has called on small political parties dissenting to the fresh 16-point agreement reached among four major political parties regarding the contentious issues of the new constitution to participate in the constitution drafting process.

Top leaders of five political parties – the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal, Tarai Madhesi Democratic Party, Federal Socialist Party, Sadbhawana Party and Tarai Madhesh Sadbhawana Party – were summoned Saturday to the PM residence for a meeting where they were urged to support the constitution-drafting. The Prime Minister tried to convince the leaders stating that the constitution would guarantee rights of all.

On the occasion, MPRF-Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav, TMDP Chair Mahantha Thakur, FSP Chair Ashok Rai, Sadbhawana Party Chair Rajendra Mahato and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party Nepal leader Ram Naresh Raya requested PM Koirala to make corrections in the 16-point agreement terming it against the spirit of the constitution.

The 16-point agreement has attempted to keep the matters of federalism in bay and they have doubt whether it was just meant for ascent to power, the leaders said in a meeting with the PM as stated by TMDP Co-Chair Hridayesh Tripathi who was also present in the meeting.

The leaders said they would hinder the CA calendar if it was executed without mending the 16-point agreement. RSS
