PM meets security chiefs

KATHMANDU, April 25: Prime Minister Madhav Nepal on Sunday evening held an emergency meeting with the chiefs of all four security agencies to assess overall security situation in the wake of the planned Maoist protests.



The meeting with Nepal Army chief Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, Nepal Police IGP Ramesh Chanda Thakuri, Armed Police Force Additional IG Kishor Kumar Lama, and National Investigation Department Chief Ashok Dev Bhatta dwelt on overall security situation in the country. Home Minister Bhim Rawal, Defense Minister Bidya Bhandari and Information and Communications Minister Shankar Pokharel were present in the meeting. [break]



According to prime minister´s press advisor Bishnu Rijal, the security chiefs briefed the prime minister on the security situation. The meeting lasted for two and half hours starting 7:30 pm.



This is the first time the prime minister held meeting with the chiefs of all security chiefs. The government has said it has credible information that the Maoists are preparing to seize power through street protests.
