KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai met Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala at the latter´s residence at Maharajgunj on Monday and held talks on peace process and constitution drafting.

According to sources, Dahal and Bhattarai told Koirala that they have maintained maximum flexibility on the peace process and requested Koirala to reciprocate the Maoist move.[break]

In response, Koirala told the Maoist chairman and the prime minister that his party is holding the Central Committee meeting from Tuesday and would discuss the issues of peace process and the constitution-drafting in detail. He assured the Maoist leaders that his party would be flexible enough to take the peace process to its logical end.

With the election of Bhattarai to the post of prime minister, the Maoists have been active to strike a deal on peace and constitution. Serious rifts have surfaced in the UCPN (Maoist) over the peace process, with the party hardliners vehemently opposing the handover of weapons containers to the Special Committee.
