PM consults Indian envoy

KATHMANDU, August 7: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held a consultation meeting with Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood on Friday and discussed on his upcoming visit to India beginning August 18.



The PM´s foreign affairs advisor, Rajan Bhattarai, said that the PM met the envoy in connection with his visit to India. "The PM´s agenda during his India visit was also discussed in the meeting," Bhattarai said, adding, "The PM is, however, yet to formulate his final agenda of the visit."



Sources have, however, informed that the Indian side has pressed for inclusion of extradition treaty which has been in the pipeline for quite sometime. Also in the agenda is the issue of finalizing the strip map between the two countries.



Meanwhile, in the hydropower sector, priority would be given to the Pancheshwar Project. Nepal will also request India for assistance in cleaning the Bagmati River.



Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala´s upcoming visit to New Delhi will set the ground for the PM´s visit. She will leave for New Delhi on August 10. Koirala will hold meetings with her counterpart and Indian foreign secretary. She has also made a request to meet Indian Prime Minister, a Foreign Ministry official said.
