Khanal expressed such views while presenting the progress report on the peace process at a meeting of the parliamentary committee formed to monitor the implementation of the five-point deal reached between the parties before the extension of the Constituent Assembly term.[break]
“The intra and inter-party disputes have come in the way and we must remove these hurdles to conclude the peace process and constitution drafting,” UML chief whip Bhim Acharya quoted Khanal while replying to the lawmakers´ queries in the 17-member committee.
The prime minister in his report claimed that the differences on the integration process are being narrowed down, but pointed out the need for consensus to conclude the peace process. “The differences cannot be settled without mutual understanding, unity and cooperation,” the prime minister stated.
The prime minister arguing that the stakeholders of the peace process have not played positive roles said, “I have always been for consensus and I am ready for the implementation of the five-point deal.”
He stated that the Special Committee met eight times and took various decisions on integration and that the tasks are being carried out accordingly.

The prime minister stated that there are mainly five contentious issues in the integration process: modality, norms, number, rank harmonization and rehabilitation package. He said it was a great achievement of his government to bring the combatants under the control of the Special Committee.
The prime minister stated that the security provided to senior Maoist leaders by the PLA personnel has been withdrawn and that 62 armed PLA personnel have already returned to the cantonments. Some two dozen armed PLA personnel with 32 weapons deployed for the security of Maoist hardliners have not yet returned to the cantonments.
He said a 120-strong team is currently surveying the cantonments.
