PM asks NC for support on CA term

KATHMANDU, May 19: Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal requested Nepali Congress (NC) to support it´s bid to extend the Constituent Assembly (CA) term in a meeting with President Sushil Koirala in Maharajgunj on Thursday morning.



PM Khanal urged NC that extension is necessary to bring the ongoing peace process and constitution writing to a logical end.[break]



Koirala said that NC would submit a 10-point demand to the PM on Thursday afternoon that details the conditions put forward by NC for support on CA term extension.



“We discussed the term extension of the CA and I urged NC to lend their support in the matter as there is no alternative to it and we are coming with a calendar of event to bring the peace process to a logical end,” PM Khanal said after the meeting.



Koirala urged Khanal to give priority to the ongoing peace process. He said that the Khanal-led government has to show a concrete progress in the peace process before May 28.



"There is no point in extending the term of the CA in the present context," Koirala said.



Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic) also met Koirala on Thursday morning.
