KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Players preparing for the upcoming South Asian Games reached the Dasharath Stadium as usual on Sunday morning only to see red. The stadium was littered with garbage. [break]

This was courtesy of the Newar wings of the Nepali Congress, UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML, who had gathered there on Saturday to declare Kathmandu Valley a Newa Autonomous state.

Obviously, the garbage piled up at the stadium disrupted the players´ training. But some infuriated players took serious offense and padlocked the office of the National Sports Council.

When that didn´t cool their tempers they decided instead to collect the garbage and dump it in the NSC office. Players didn´t even spare NSC member Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary´s office.

Later Chaudhary himself decided to take matters in his hand and reached the office of the Nepal National International Players´ Association.

During the talks, Chaudhary assured the players that the NSC would follow NNIPA´s advice if organizations not affiliated to sports wanted to hire the stadium. Likewise, Chaudhary also assured that hoarding-boards around the stadium would be well managed, toilets would be renovated and the stadium would be declared smoke-free zone.

Myrepublica.com captured all the events that unfolded on Sunday morning.
