DHARAN, Jan 28: Police have arrested two Maoist People´s Liberation Army (PLA) combatants while they were plotting to extort from a Dharan-based businessman Nabin Rajbhandari.

They were arrested while they were planning to extort from Rajbhandari after seizing a tractor belonging to him and abducting his driver Thursday.

Those arrested by police have been identified as Raju Magar and Suman Luitel, members of PLA first division, cantoned at Yangshila in Morang district.[break]

A special team deployed from the Zonal Police Office in Dharan arrested them from Itahari and the police made the duo public amid a press meet. The security men confiscated a local-made pistol, plastic hand grenade and a knife, among other articles, from them.

Luitel was qualified in the verification of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) while the UN body disqualified Magar in its verification. Police said they deserted the UN-monitored cantonment around two months ago.

"We did all this due to our poverty. The money we received in the cantonments is too little while we came from very poor family background," Magar said.
