The expo saw local and international photographers coming together to share and enjoy the event with presentations, workshops, talks and discussions along the Photography and Digital Imaging Expo.[break]
“The expo was overwhelming. We got more people coming in and a lot happened than what we had planned. The expected crowd topped 2, 00,000 in just three days and it was fantastic,” said Raj Bhai Suwal, Chairperson of Photokipa 2012, adding, “This expo was being held for the very first time and hence, people were really excited about it.” He also added that the event will be held next year. “The plan was to hold this exposition once every two years but the response was such that we plan to do it annually now,” he shared.
The event kick started with “Print making for Professional Photographers” Conducted by Aishu Mathema and Deependra Bajracharya followed by “Lecture and presentation” by Satish Sharma, an independent photographer, researcher and writer on photography as well as an occasional photography curator, in association with the Indian Cultural Center, on the life and works of the first Indian woman photojournalist Homai Vyarawalla.
Image Park also conducted a free interactive visual seminar on “Portfolio - myth to reality” for all interested freelance/working and enthusiast beginner photographers on the very first day. The second day of the expo saw, “Consulting Session for Visual Story-Tellers” and “War Photographer: Showcasing and Discussion”.
Photo.Circle, a platform for emerging and professional photographers, held a presentation titled “Contemporary Nepali Photography” of new works produced by young Nepali photographers in the end.
Amol Shrestha, Bishwo Raj KC, Gyanendra Bhattarai, Marina Lama, Phurpu Tsering Gurung, Prakash KC, Prasiit Sthapit, Rabin Tamang, Rajan Shrestha, Rajneesh Bhandari, Ramesh Man Maharjan, Sajana Shrestha, Sandeep Subba, Sandhya Shrestha, Sanjaya Hada, Sapana Shah, Shikhar Bhattarai, Shitu Rajbhandari and Uma Bista’s work were presented during the two hour long presentation.
