Phintso Lama leads day I

KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Phintso Ongdi Lama took the lead on day I of the Everest Golf Challenge on Friday.



Lama posted 39 stableford points at the Gokarna Golf Course while Harish Gorsia and Neeraj Rana finished the opening day jointly in the second position. Gorsia and Rana are two points behind Lama. [break]



Tashi Tsiring and Tsultrim Lama scored 35 stableford points and are with four strokes off the lead. Indra Thapa scored 34.



Other in the top ten are, Joseph Nathan and Prem Sachdev 33, Tashi Sherpa 32, Prasanna Upreti and Rajendra Shrestha scored 31.



Tashi Sherpa got longest drive award and Harish Gorsia won closest to the pin on the opening day. The final 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament played on Stableford format will be played on Saturday.



Altogether 44 players, including those from India and Malaysia, took part in the day one event. There will also be a team event on Saturday. Altogether 12 teams, including a team from India and four from Malaysia, are taking part in the team event.



Top scorer from the Malaysian team, Datuk Wira Jahaya Bin Mat scored 30 points.



The two-day tournament is organized by Gokarna Forest Golf Resort to boost golf tourism in the country on the eve of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
