Inaugurating the fifth national general convention of Nepal Trade Union Congress-Independent (NTUC-I) at Tandi in Eastern Chitwan on Sunday, President Koirala urged the relevant political forces not to opt for obstructing the CA elections. [break]
People were compelled to live in confusion during the past 15 years, he said, adding that all the people are in favour of lasting peace in the country.
Urging the party cadres not to make any doubt on holding of election, Koirala directed the activists to engage their entire efforts for poll publicity in a confident manner.
´No one has power to stop the election; take strides for electoral preparation. Those defying democracy will fall apart.´, said the NC President, asking UCPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal to come to the mainstream of democracy so as to restore lasting peace in the country.
Reiterating that the NC would never compromise with anyone at the expense of democracy, he said it is the prime responsibility of the NC to maintain peace in the country by framing a new constitution.
´The general public are longing for change´, he said, claiming that the Maoists and UML could not bring any change in the country so Congress is the only choice of the people.
The workers´ section has crucial role in all types of changes in the country, Koirala said, noting Congress sans workers class is not possible.
NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba warned that those escaping from the election will end up their existence.
No force could dare to protest and obstruct CA elections as people have openly come up in support of the election, leader Deuba claimed.
He also urged all to be confident in regard to the promulgation of a new constitution.
The party would allot 10 per cent of the representation to workers class in the CA election, the senior leader said, assuring that the workers´ rights would be enshrined in the new constitution.
NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel blamed the UCPN (Maoist) for moving ahead with the motive of capturing state power.
He claimed that the people being aware of the Maoist´s wrong intention are increasingly supporting the NC in view of CA elections.
On the occasion, NC general secretary duo, Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, said that being the party of workers the NC would never go back for assuring the rights of labour class.
Contestants duo Pushkar Acharya and Khilanath Dahal have shed light on their future plans at the inaugural event chaired by NTUC-I Laxman Basnet.
As many as 1,600 delegates across the country took part in the general convention today.
