The traffic police have started the campaign with the purpose of reducing possible accidents while crossing roads.[break]
Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Division has started the campaign from Thursday. According to Police Inspector at the Division Rabin Shrestha, action was taken against 365 persons on the first day of the Campaign, Thursday, for not using overhead bridges for safe journey.
The campaign was started from very busy places of the Valley such as Ratnapark, Bhotahiti, Jamal and Sundhara.
Shrestha further said they will give continuity to the campaign and added that Rs. 50 was charged to each person, who had crossed the road under the overhead bridge, and alerted them about possible accident while crossing the roads.
It is said that Rs 18,250 was collected on the first day of the campaign as fine. Meanwhile, action against 8,281 people was taken under the campaign against anti-alcohol drive so far which was started from December 7 by traffic police.
A total of Rs 6.37 million has been collected so far from the campaign, said traffic police.
The campaign, which was operated targeting the drunk drivers, is being effective and has also reduced the accidents.
