Republica National Daily, sister organization of Nagarik Daily, honored Ghimire amid an interaction program among bloggers organized in the capital on Saturday.
Various bloggers from across the country had written blogs under the topic: "If acid attack or burning women alive is a gender issue triggered by - male honor, rejection, dowry and many more... What is the role of the government, INGOs, media and us as responsible citizens to stop this gruesome act."
Speaking at the program, project manager with Burns Violence Survivor Nepal, Kripa Rana Shahi, said that socialization is an important aspect of gender equality as social disgrace is more painful than physical pain that victims endure. She informed that her organization has registered more than 50 cases of burning of women just in the last two years.
Likewise, a member of National Women Commission (NWC), Manu Humagain, said that the forms of violence have been changing and there is a need to bring changes in people's mentality.
With an aim of bringing to the fore social issues that have been left in the dark, Republica National Daily has been organizing bloggers' contest through SocialDentity.
It even aims at fostering the participation of and dialogue between bloggers, various stakeholders including government, civil society organizations and various communities to promote effective policies and methods to eradicate such crimes.
