Labat was admitted at the Intensive Cure Unit (ICU) of hospital after surgery. According to Bharat Bhatta, a neighbor, Labat died on the spot.

“We ran toward the spot after people started shouting,” he said, adding, “He died on the spot.” After the incident, employees of the hospital took back Labat to his bed.

Bhatta alleged that there was no one present at the ICU to look after the patient when the incident took place.

The hospital does not allow visitors to sit near the patient even in cabins.

“We are not allowed to sit near the patients,” Bhatta said, adding, “The patient lying on the bed next to Labat´s said no one was there when the patient walked out of the door.”

Labat was admitted at the hospital 18 days ago and was set to be discharged on Saturday. His family had paid Rs 300,000 for the treatment.

According to Bhatta, Labat was mentally sound.

“He must have been under the influence of medicine when the incident occurred,” he surmised.

The hospital has admitted to lapses and has provided a compensation of Rs 650,000 to the family of the deceased.

The hospital administration could not be reached for comments.
