Parties discuss govt formation

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The top three parties on Thursday discussed formation of a consensus government at the CPN-UML parliamentary party office, Singha Durbar but did not reach any agreement.



“All parties put forward their stance openly, and there was open discussion but not an agreement,” UML leader KP Oli said.[break]



Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala, parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel and UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal along with Oli were in the meeting.



The top leaders will meet again on Friday at the Peace Ministry. Friday is the deadline set by the President for the formation of consensus government. If parties fail to reach a consensus, the President will ask the parliament to elect new Prime Minister.
