“The meeting decided to solicit assistance from the international community, if need be, for the rehabilitation of the combatants in society,” said Nepali Congress leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, who attended the meeting held at Singha Durbar.

The committee also decided to hand over the responsibility of seeking financial assistance from the international community to the government for rehabilitation of the combatants who are not registered but still living in the cantonments.

The meeting agreed to prepare a code of conduct draft of the AISC. The meeting, attended by representatives of all major political parties, appointed the chief secretary as spokesperson of the committee. The leaders also agreed to keep internal issues of the meeting confidential.

There are 19,602 registered Maoist combatants in UN-monitored cantonments. The Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) hasn’t yet released the combatants, who failed the UN verification, despite national and international call.
