KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Major four parties-- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and Madhesi Morcha-- finally agreed to form a chief justice-led (CJ) government on Saturday evening.
The meeting touted as ‘decisive’ held in presence of President Ram Baran Yadav at his residence in Shital Niwas also formed a taskforce representing all parties. [break]
The taskforce comprises Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Khim Lal Devkota from UCPN (Maoist), Bimalendra Nidhi and Minendra Rijal from NC, Agni Kharel and Bhim Rawal from CPN-UML and Hridayesh Tripathi and Jitendra Dev from UDMF.
The taskforce will also resolve constitutional hurdles that are expected to emerge with CJ-led government and come up with model of the government.
CJ-led govt more neutral: PM
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai through his twitter account @brb_laaldhwoj said that the government under the leadership of the CJ will not violate the established principle of separation of powers but will be legitimate more than any other options.
"An acting chief justice will be appointed as the chief of the judiciary. The chief justice will return to his usual job after holding election. Therefore, this will not violate the principle of separation of powers," the PM in his twitter account said.
He also argued that the role of political parties will not be undermined due to the formation of CJ-led government. "There will be a political mechanism that will suggest the CJ-led election government," the PM said.
