KATHMANDU, April 12: The FNCCI on Tuesday elected Pradeep Jung Pandey as its new vice-president from commodity assocations.

Pandey secured 46 votes, while his opponent Kiran Shakha received 27 votes. Pandey and Saakha represent panels of Ajad Shrestha and Suraj Vaidya, respectively. [break]

Shrestha and Vaidya are the two candidates contesting for FNCCI presidency. Altogether 569 businessmen and industrialists from across the country were eligible for voting but three did not vote.

Ashok Sharma, Nirmal Raj Poudel, Sukunta Lal Hirachan, Sanjay Giri, Birat Thapa, Rajan Sharma, Dinesh Shrestha, Shankar Prasad Pandey, Biplav Man Singh, Nanda Kishore Shrestha and Kamala Shrestha were elected executive members. Tirtha Kumar Shrestha was elected executive member from Sagarmatha zone.

The election was poorly managed and suffered repeated disturbances as vertically split business leaders disputed over various issues.

The counting for the posts of FNCCI president, Vice-presidents and executive members representing associate members and district/municipal chambers was still going on by the time this newspaper went to press.
