KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Nepali footballers, photo journalists and consumers of Coca Cola will get an opportunity to see the authentic FIFA World Cup Trophy when it arrives in Kolkata, India on January 17 during its tour around 86 countries of the world prior to the World Cup Football 2010 to be held in South Africa. Coca Cola is the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour. Bottlers Nepal Limited (BNL), the manufacturer of Coca Cola in Nepal, is providing free sponsorship for the winners of the Coca Cola Inter-school Football Tournament, two photojournalists, footballer Bikas Malla and five consumers of Coca Cola.

Radhika Secondary School won the title of the Coca Cola Inter-school Football Tournament held earlier this year. The entire football team of the school will go to Kolkata for a three-day carnival. Photojournalists Sundar Shrestha and Rajendra Chitrakar, who secured the first and second positions respectively for photo coverage of the tournament, will accompany the team.

National team football captain Bikas Malla was selected for his performance during the SAFF Championship held earlier this month in Bangladesh. “The World Cup is the dream of every footballer. To see the trophy is like life´s biggest dream being fulfilled. Maybe just seeing the trophy might prompt us to work hard to achieve it some day,” said Bikas during a press conference on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, five consumers of Coca Cola will be selected through a lucky draw on January 5. The consumers have to fill in their personal details in a tag that comes along with a 1.5-liter bottle of Coke, Fanta, Sprite or Kinley Club soda and submit it in a drop-box found at 12 supermarkets in Kathmandu.

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa expressed gratitude to BNL for sponsoring school level tournaments and also for providing an opportunity to Nepalis to see the World Cup Trophy.

Saumindra Bhattacharya, managing director of BNL, said that his company is committed to the development of football in Nepal. “We have been sponsoring school level football and we will take a 360-degree initiative in the development of football.”
