OHCHR expresses concern over Tarai violence

KATHMANDU, Sept 14: United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein expressed his concern over the recent violence in the Tarai region of Nepal, which has led to the death and injury of protestors and security personnel.

Speaking at the 30th session of the Human Rights Council of UN in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday, he also expressed his concern over reported attacks against human rights defenders and journalists by protestors.

He urged all political leaders to work together to address differences over the proposed constitution peacefully, and to ensure that the security forces uphold human rights at all times.
