“The gathering aims to celebrate the women in our lives and call on the society and the country to end gender-based violence and ensure justice to the victims,” said a youth activist Pranika Koyu, while briefing the media persons during a press meet on Tuesday. “Our message will be ´Love is you, love is me, love is respect´,” she added.
Koyu added that several organizations working for women´s rights and activists would be present to express their solidarity with the movement and take part in the rally from Baluwatar to Shanti Batika at Ratnapark.
Speaking at the press meet, another youth campaigner Jagannath Lamichhane said that the movement was earlier limited to women´s rights or justice for the victims, but now it is also against the system as a whole and impunity. “More and more victims of impunity have been joining the movement,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking to Republica, spokesperson of national women commission Monha Ansari stated that Occupy Baluwatar movement has great significance as it is led by youths and they are demanding zero tolerance against gender-based violence.
“It is really encouraging and pleasant to celebrate 50th day of the movement, which has absolutely been led by our youths. I urge everyone to support the movement,” she added.
