NSU President Pradip Poudel handed over the assistance to Kayastha at the latter´s residence in Banepa. The Nepali Congress-affiliated student union collected the amount through Deusi.
On the occasion, Poudel told the family members that NSU had already declared Kayastha a ´living martyr´. He said that NSU will exert pressure also on the government to declare him a living martyr. "Nepal Students Union will always hold in high regards the contribution made by him on behalf of students during democratic movement," he said.

In course of police action against the participants of democratic protests, Kayastha, then 15-year old, had received two bullets to his temple. He remains bed-ridden since them. He cannot speak.
Kayastha family had kept Mukesh in Bir Hospital for nine months. He has already undergone 11 surgeries so far.
The government has so far provided Rs 1.7 million assistance to the Kayastha family. Likewise, various organizations and well wishers have so far donated the family Rs 450,000. Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal during his recent visit to Mukesh´s residence announced that the government will increase his monthly allowance to Rs 10,000 a month, up from Rs 4,000.
