KATHMANDU, Aug 30: The National Resident Doctors Association (NRDA) of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj, has decided to shut down OPD services, except emergency ward, in support of Dr Govinda KC from Monday.

More than 300 resident doctors at the TUTH have jointly decided to skive their duties from Monday saying that the government paid no heed to the demands of Dr KC, who has been staging a fast-unto-death since past seven days.

Similarly, the medical students at the IOM have also decided not to attend any classes from tomorrow supporting the decision.

A meeting of the NRDA held today has decided to stage relay hunger strike from today evening.

Dr Ramchandra Sapkota, Chairman of the NRDA said the medical students have also supported their professor's peaceful demands. "We are compelled to take to the streets after KC's peaceful demands fell on the deaf ears," said Sapkota.

Dr KC, who has already staged fast-unto-death five times in the past, has put forward an eight-point demand this time that includes full implementation of the Mathema taskforce's report and other past accords.
