As a result, they continued to picket offices of the governor and deputy governor on Friday as well.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday had formed a committee to hold talks with the two employees unions to end the strike. [break]
The two associations have been picketing the offices for the past 14 days. Nepal Financial Institution Employees Association (NFIEA) had joined the protest on Thursday.
Shambhusharan Kayastha, coordinator of the talks committee, said the negotiation on Friday was limited to preliminary discussion and that no decision was taken. The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday.
Tirtha Raj Silwal, president of National Employees Organization (NEO), said consensus could not be reached as the management failed to address their issues. “The committee invited NRB Employees Union, which is not the agitating union, for talks,” he said, accusing the committee of failing to deal with issue as provisioned in trade union act.
The agitating trade unions had submitted separate memorandums to the management a couple of months ago. The demands include appointment of contracted workers on permanent basis and revision of perks and benefits among others.
Leaders of employees associations told Republica that their protest would continue unless their demands are addressed.
