KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Deuba-faction of the Nepali Congress has collected signatures of 60 lawmakers for filing a no confidence motion against parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel, most likely on Monday.

Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand, who is close to Senior Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, told Republica that leaders from the faction will hold talks with party President Sushil Koirala and other senior leaders Monday morning to urge Paudel to step down from the position of parliamentary party leader.[break]

“If Paudel does not resign, we will file no-confidence motion against him by Monday evening," Khand said.

The Deuba-faction has been seeking resignation of Paudel based on a six-month old agreement with President Koirala. While seeking support of the Deuba-faction to endorse Paudel as vice president and Krishna Prasad Sitaula as general secretary, the party establishment had promised Deuba that he could have the post of parliamentary party leader later.

"We don´t want to file no-confidence motion in the first place if the establishment agrees to choose Deuba as the party´s parliamentary leader," said Khand.
