No development of education unless peace is reinstated: Deuba

KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Former Prime Minister and leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Wednesday that there was no possibility of development of different sectors including education and health unless peace was established permanently in the country.



Deuba said that the main responsibility of the political parties is to fulfill expectations of the general public by taking works of the peace process and constitution writing to their logical conclusion at the earliest.[break]



He further said permanent peace will only be maintained in the country if camps of PLA combatants of the UCPN (Maoist) were vacated and their arms were handed-over to the government.



At a program, organized by the Padma Kanya Free Students´ Union, former Prime Minister Deuba said problem of unemployment of the country would not be resolved without quality technical education.



He added problems of unemployment would not have been increased in the country if technical education system was implemented soon after the establishment of democracy in the country.



No environment to provide quality education would be built in educational institutions without friendly relations between students and teachers, said Deuba.



Student Unions should work as a mediator for the same which helps to make student politics disciplined.



Similarly, central member of the NC, NP Saud said that present educational standard could not uplift as students have been centered on political issues rather than quality and infrastructure development of the University.



According to Chairman of the All Nepal National Independent Students´ Union (Revolutionary), Himal Sharma, there should be no appointment of chiefs on the basis of political sharing in the 60 constituent campuses under the Tribhuvan University.



Likewise, President of the Nepal Students Union (NSU) Ranjit Karna said that election of Free Students Union (FSU) should be held as soon as possible through direct election system on the consensus of all.



On the occasion, Chairman of Nepal Women´s Association Dr Dina Sangroula, outgoing vice-president duo of the NSU Nayan Singh Mahar and Bhupendra Jung Shahi, FSU President of Padma Kanya Campus Lal Kumari Pokhrel, among others, said that student´s politics should focus on making every educational institutions of the country free and impartial.
